While in Zanzibar

Stone Town

236Hurumzi is a beautiful Zanzibar style hotel located in the heart of Stone Town. The rooms are opulent - stained-glass windows, wooden lattice-work, marbled bathtubs and oriental rugs recall the days of the Sultans. The view from the rooftop restaurant over the harbour is stunning.

Beyt al Chai is placed in an excellent location in Stone town, nearby the beach and the town centre. The building is original and authentic Zanzibar architecture. All rooms are different and unique. Its delicate decoration and taste makes this hotel especial. And the food is delicious!

Mtoni Marine is situated on the west coast, only 5 minutes north of Stone Town. It is an ideal location from which to explore Stone Town and the rest of the island, while providing a peaceful retreat from it all. "Sense the Spice in Style" is slogan as they touch your senses, whether it is the cuisine from their acclaimed Mtoni Marine Restaurant.

Outside

Matemwe Bungalows is located on the north-east coast of Zanzibar one of the best beaches of the island, opposite the well-known Mnemba atoll. Matemwe Bungalows is an intimate lodge with only a dozen luxury suite rooms and a very relaxed atmosphere. The friendly staff and excellent seafood cuisine, along with two swimming pools and lush gardens make it the ultimate, exclusive beach location. Due to it's remoteness it is almost like being on a private beach.

Shooting Star - is a laid-back cozy lodge with a great atmosphere and fantastic pool on a very nice stretch of beach. You are booked on half board basis here, so that you can decide about lunch on the spot.

Pongwe Beach Hotel is set in a stunning location on top of rocks that tower above a small bay. The whole place has a traditional Zanzibar feel to it - lime-washed walls and thatched roofs, a lush garden with palm trees and friendly staff - and there is a swimming pool as well. All rooms have private bathrooms and ceiling fans.

Hakuna Majiwe. This lovely lodge is located in the south east part of the island. This part of Zanzibar beach is well known for its beautiful beaches. With only 20 bungalows (all stunning sea views), this small lodge combines attention to the detail, good food and perfect and tranquil beach.

Blue bay Beach Resort is situated on the finest wide, white, sandy beach on the island of Zanzibar. Located on the East Coast in an area known as Kiwengwa. The hotel is situated on the most beautiful 25 acres site with its bedroom cottages located on rising ground overlooking verdant gardens, the public areas, the pool, the more than 1,000 beautiful palm trees, the sparkling white beach and the azure sea with its coral reef offering particularly warm and safe swimming.

Breezes Beach Club feels like an exotic and personal home. All the rooms are tastefully decorated in ivory tones, with cotton throws, teak wood finishes and Zanzibar carvings. Except for the almost private fine white beach there is an absolutely lovely swimming pool. This family owned resort was nominated last year among the top five resorts in Africa and won the ‘best resort in Tanzania' at the World Travel Awards.

Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel is situated in a glorious natural paradise. It has rooms with a beautiful garden or sea view. We think this hotel is a truly exclusive hideaway. The unspoilt beach at Ras Nungwi is arguably the best on Zanzibar, and the nearby coral reef yields a beautiful lagoon. Except for the sea you can also enjoy the hotel's fresh-water swimming pool, with stunning views of the Indian Ocean.

Chumbe Island

Chumbe Island is situated nearby Zanzibar. The staff of the lodge will come and get you by boat from the mainland of Zanzibar. The level of the service and the friendliness of the staff is extremely good. If you want to stay somewhere where you can just wallow in the breathtaking surroundings and nature, this place is a must-see!

Pemba Island

Fundu Lagoon is a perfect counter piece to the country's best safari lodges and camps. Set on the west coast of Pemba Island, it occupies a perfectly secluded spot. All rooms over look the water - the whole place is tastefully designed, and the food and service are impeccable. Nearby is the beautiful Mesali Island, a nature reserve which you can visit for only 20US$ extra per person (this is a contribution which needs to be paid directly to the nature reserve.
